Knowing our patterns isn’t about judging or trying to fit them.

It’s about befriending our systems so we can show them it’s safe to move differently now.

It’s about being so kind to the parts of us that hold onto old patterning because, at one time, it protected us.

And it’s about integrating new patterns that serve our greatest expression in business and life.

There’s no one size fits all approach to entrepreneurship, making it the greatest journey of self-discovery there is.

Here are four patterns of nervous system dyregulation, and how they show up in business…

1: Fight

Fighting to compete:

  • Desire to beat others in your niche by excessively posting and aggressively selling. Will do anything for the sale

  • Sacrificing social life for business

Judgement and criticism:

  • Constant checking to see offers and marketing of others and creating in opposition to it

Thinking: “I have to be better than everyone else”

2: Flight

Constant hustle mode:

  • Anxious worrying and checking of social media, email and bank accounts

  • Working late nights and weekends, unable to relax and rest

Urgency + scarcity

  • Feeling like you must sell something now

  • Creating constant urgency in your marketing

Thinking: “Maybe if I go to Bali everything will be OK”

3: Freeze

Feeling stuck + uninspired:

  • Feeling disconnected from your dreams, goals and vision

  • Having too many ideas but getting stuck in planning without action

Self-criticism

  • Not believing in your own power and the value of your work (discounting often)

  • Zoning out, scrolling mindlessly

Thinking: “I’m never going to measure up”

4: Fawn

Shrinking the power of your work:

  • Discounting and bending to what clients want instead of owning the value you offer

  • Afraid to play a bigger game or take up space without testimonials or lifestyles (don’t want to upset others)

Hiding and playing small:

  • Withdrawing from marketing and selling

  • Hiding your true self and playing it safe in your writing and expression

Thinking: “It’s never going to change”

Nervous system work is unique to every body - how it shows up for one person could vary wildly to how it shows up for you. The journey of understanding our own patterning isn’t about self-criticism but about supporting us to form new ways of being that serve where we’re going.
